The way most people talk about health doesn’t capture a big enough picture. The conversation takes too narrow a focus on treating illness instead of preventing illness and addressing its root causes. As a result, what we really have is a sickness care system and not a health system at all.

That’s why we launched Shift the Conversation: Community Health and Wellbeing. It is an initiative of the Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC) to support ongoing dialogue with those who share our vision: the best possible health and wellbeing for everyone.

Here you will find information about the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) — a powerful tool the Association and its members are using to broaden the conversation far beyond health care to include the many different factors that impact our health and wellbeing. Follow the links below to explore examples of the CIW in action, read stories of positive change, and get involved in the annual Community Health and Wellbeing Week celebration.
